why study noh?
Noh is unique in the world, boasting one of the oldest continuous performance practices dating back to its origins in 14th century Japan. It combines dance, chant, music, and mask into a multifaceted live experience. Along with a rich literary legacy, ornate costumes, and a ritualized stage space, noh practice evokes stillness and an intense mysterious beauty. Noh Training Project Japan provides an opportunity for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds to explore and understand this living cultural treasure.
Challenge yourself. Challenge your abilities.
The skills derived from a study of noh have been utilized by performance artists in all fields of creativity and actors, directors, dancers, musicians, and academics interested in a non-Western performance experience are encouraged to apply.
